When I teach, I try to live by the philosophy in the quote above. Although my worldview is probably quite different to Goethe's, he has many words of wisdom. I’ve found that when I approach students with respect and encouragement, they often rise to meet those expectations. Positive interactions such as genuine praise and patience (at times, so much restraint is needed!) tend to have a far greater impact than criticism. When students feel seen for their potential rather than their mistakes, they become more confident, more willing to take risks and more engaged in their learning. Over time, this approach shapes not just behaviour, but also the mindset of students in our care. - Mel
